Hello and welcome to the Swan Class page.

I am Miss Gallagher and I am the class teacher. We are one of the Year 2 Classes here at Roecroft.

We are the last stage of Key Stage 1 and we aim to consolidate and improve on all of the skills acquired in Year 1 as well as build on these skills and prepare you for the beginning of Key Stage 2. 

We are going to have a great summer term with our new topic ‘Beside the Seaside.’ We have already presented our Class assembly to our families and the rest of the school where we sang some of our favourite seaside songs and showed some of our beautiful work. We have written postcards to our friends and family in literacy and are now working on our own non-fiction books full of seaside facts! We are working extra hard this term in preparation for our SATS and have been doing lots of different calculations in numeracy.  

Learning Logs are our weekly tasks to be carried out at home.  These tasks will always compliment a subject area that we will have been working on in the classroom.  They are a chance to shine and demonstrate the new skills and ideas that we have been introduced to. 

PE continues to take place on a Monday and a Friday but you will need your PE kit in school every day. Please ensure your child has plimsoles or trainers as we will be going outside.

Your child will now be issued with two reading books, one of which will be a non-fiction text. Please continue to enjoy sharing these texts with your child ensuring that they read these and understand them thoroughly. Reading at home continues to be a very important aspect of our learning.  

Values continue to be part of our ethos and are displayed in our classroom.  We have a reward jar where we can earn jewels for our work or demonstrating our Values.  When the jar is full we decide on and enjoy a whole class treat!
