Phonics & Spellings
As a school we pride ourselves in the outstanding level of phonics teaching we deliver.
Read Write Inc is an exciting and engaging phonics scheme that we have embedded across the whole school.
In years 1-4, children are expected to learn common exception words. These words contain graphemes which have not yet been taught, but are words that children frequently use in their writing and often misspell.
In Key Stage 2, children should be confident spelling all of the year 1 and 2 common exception words. They then have a new list of words, which they are expected to be able to spell by the end of year 4.
Further information about the spelling rules taught in each year group can be found in the spelling appendix of the Key Stage 1 & 2 English National Curriculum.
